People say that constipation is a disease but actually it is a symptom. It is basically an irregularity of bowel movements. It is not just a state of “no motions” but an obstruction of the intestines. Adopt a healthy lifestyle to cure constipation. There are other important factors as well.
1. Take Aloe Vera juice, Ginger tea and bael fruit. They are good for cleaning up the digestive system. They also help in toning the intestines.
2. Eat fibrous foods like figs, oats, raisins, munakka, corn, prunes, ripe bananas, plums, papaya, guava and green leafy vegetables like peas, spinach, beans and sprouts.
3. Take a balanced diet which is full of nutrition and rich in fiber. Add more fruit and vegetables.
4. Water cleanses and gets toxins out of the body. It is the best medicine for constipation. Drink plenty of water in addition to juices.
5. Drink 2-3 glasses of warm water in the morning (empty stomach) and do 5-10 minutes of walk, to regularize bowel movements.
6. Eat whole wheat flour and unpolished rice, and reduce the intake of processed food, sugar, fats and maida because these congest the liver and delay the digestion process.
7. Reduce intake of meat products, potatoes, brinjal, ladyfingers, radish, cauliflower and pulses like black grams and kidney beans because these are gas-forming.
8. Add one to two teaspoons of ghee in hot milk and have it at bedtime. It is a very gentle cure for constipation.
9. Triphla powder is also good for dealing with constipation. Take one spoon of triphla powder with warm water at bedtime for constipation relief.
10. For severe constipation, add two teaspoons of castor oil to a warm cup of milk and have it at bedtime. Pregnant women should not take this because it can cause premature contradiction.
11. Sedentary life style is one of the common causes of constipation. Exercise regularly to regulate easy bowel movements. Riding a bike, jogging and strolling strengthens abdominal muscles
12. Try acupressure to cure constipation. Put pressure on the sensitive points for intestine like the curves of the foot and points between fingers, to get instant relief.
13. Choose a right posture while evacuating. It is squatting posture (Indian style toilet). If you are using western style toilet, place a stool under your feet to increase angle between hips and thighs.
14. Enema treatment smoothens the passage of stool. But it should be taken on doctor’s recommendation only.
15. Placing a cold strip on abdomen for near about 20 minutes can reduce the heat in area due to hard stool.
16. Apply approximately one inch thick (dough like) strip of mudpack below the navel area. Mudpack soaks the excessive heat.
17. Grapes are very helpful in overcoming constipation. It is a natural laxative food with a combination of the properties of the cellulose, sugar, and organic acid.
18. Taking orange juice is an excellent way of stimulating the bowels.
19. Spinach is the most vital vegetable for entire digestive tract. It cleanses, reconstructs and regenerates the intestines tracts.
20. Take a glass of hot water. Add juice of half lemon and a pinch of salt. It is known to be an effective medicine for constipation cure.
