American Diabetes Association designed the diabetic food pyramid. Diabetic food pyramid can be divided in six groups. These groups have some subgroups and are mentioned below.
1) Grains and Starchy Vegetables - The largest subgroup which came at the bottom contains beans, grains and vegetable having starch. Bread, cereal, pasta and rice came in this group. This group of diabetic food pyramid suggests that one should increase the intake of grains and beans in their diet. A 6-11 serving of this group is suggested for the diabetic.
2) Vegetables - Vegetable is an important sub group of diabetes food pyramid. Vegetables that are rich in minerals, vitamins and fibres but low in fats are also beneficial for the diabetic. The fruits and vegetables that are yellow and green in colour such as spinach, kale, broccoli, romaine lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, chilies and peppers must be taken. A 3-5 serving of this group is suggested for diabetic persons.
