Diabetes is anarchy of the way our body uses digested food for growth and energy. The food we eat is further broken down into glucose which is the main source of fuel in body. After the digestion process, glucose passes into our bloodstream. The cells in the bloodstream use it for growth & energy. Insulin must be present for the glucose to get into cells. In Our body, pancreas produces insulin to move glucose from blood into cells. When pancreas produces very little or no insulin or the cells, then our body do not respond properly to the produced insulin and the resulting condition is called diabetes.

1) Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes (formerly called insulin-dependent diabetes or juvenile diabetes) generally develops in early childhood and usually remains as a lifelong condition. It is a type of diabetes which is basically an autoimmune disease in which body’s immune system attacks own beta cells and destroy their ability to create insulin. Patients of this type of diabetes need insulin daily. The chances to treat this with proper diet and other lifestyle modifications are quite rare. If not properly taken care and diagnosed, the patient can slip into ketoacidosis which is a kind of diabetic coma. The risks associated with type1 diabetes are blindness, neuropathy & kidney disease.
2) Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 Diabetes (known as non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus or adult-onset diabetes) is the most common type of diabetes. Due to sedentary lifestyle and a diet which is quite high in refined carbs and low in micronutrients, insulin level increases in bloodstream. Then cells became resistant to insulin. Pancreas decreases insulin production but the blood sugar level still remains high and the result is Type 2 diabetes. It is generally associated with older age and obesity. More than 90% cases of diabetes are of type 2 diabetes.
In this type of diabetes, body can not use insulin effectively despite of its enough production. The symptoms of type 2 diabetes develop slowly and are so mild that people usually ignore them. Infact, the risk is more than what people realize. The most common symptoms of type 2 Diabetes are excessive hunger and thirst, increased fatigue, very frequent, urination and blurry vision. Many people confuse these symptoms with the signs of aging. Type 2 Diabetes has no known cure but it can be maintained with proper diet, regular exercise program, weight control and oral medications.
3) Gestational Diabetes
Gestational Diabetes, a form of insulin resistance, usually appears during 24th – 28th week of pregnancy. It affects near about 4% of pregnant women. The hormones produced by placenta may interfere with a woman’s ability to produce insulin. This type of diabetes is automatically disappears after the delivery. Without proper control and treatment, it can be harmful for both- mother as well as for baby. Baby may face breathing problem & low blood glucose level at the time of birth. The treatment includes special diet plan, regular exercise and some insulin doses. If a woman has gestational diabetes in one pregnancy, the chances are more likely to have it in other pregnancies as well.
